Families across the Oswestry area can look forward to a packed programme of summer entertainment, with a Napoleonic-themed weekend, a village fete and a live music festival planned for August.
Whittington Castle will be transformed for a weekend of historical action when HMS Wales presents Sails, Cannons and Castles on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2.
Visitors will be able to explore a period encampment in the castle grounds, meet people taking on Nelson’s Challenge, and watch live firing demonstrations with a cannon and muskets.
The event will focus on the firepower and atmosphere of the Napoleonic Wars.

The following weekend, St Martin’s Summer Fete will take place on Saturday, August 15, from 11am to 4pm at St Martin’s Village Hall and the field behind STANS.
The free event promises family activities, stalls, food and drink, with organisers encouraging residents to come along and enjoy an afternoon of community fun.
Also on Saturday, August 15, The Original Ball in Maesbury will host its Summer Music Festival from noon until 10pm.
Live singers and bands are due to perform, with the line-up still to be announced. The festival will also include a bouncy castle, face painting, pizzas, burgers and Dragon Desserts.
With something for history enthusiasts, music fans and families, the events offer several ways to make the most of the summer around Oswestry.
