An award-winning theatre group is bringing Shakespeare to venues across Shropshire and the borders.

Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS) will perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream following their recent success at the Montgomeryshire Community Drama Association play festival, where they collected four awards including Best Production.

The show is directed by Elinor Williams, a regular cast member taking the lead for the first time.

Ms Williams said: "At a festival, people leave their ordinary lives behind and anything goes, which is exactly what happens to everyone during this mad midsummer’s night in the woods.

"I wanted to use Shakespeare’s fabulous script but bring it into a modern, but slightly bonkers, context.

"Everything is upside-down and hilariously confused – but of course, it all comes right in the end."

The production will visit Berriew, Kinnerley, and Llanymynech.

Two outdoor shows are also planned in Ellesmere and Llanfyllin.

Ms Williams said: "We are really looking forward to performing outdoors at Y Dolydd, the old workhouse in Llanfyllin, and at Oteley Estate by the mere in Ellesmere.

"Both of these venues provide a magical setting for the play and promise to give audiences a really memorable experience.

"Whether you’re new to Shakespeare or fans of the bard, we hope that you will fall under the spell of this enchanting story."

The performance schedule is as follows:

  • Sunday, June 7 at 2.30pm – Y Dolydd, Llanfyllin (outdoor performance)
  • Monday, June 8 at 7.45pm – Berriew Village Hall
  • Friday, June 12 at 7.45pm – Kinnerley Village Hall
  • Saturday, June 13 at 7.45pm – Llanymynech Village Hall
  • Sunday, June 14 at 2.30pm – Oteley Estate, Ellesmere (outdoor performance, ticket includes full access to the gardens)
