A man has received a hefty fine after he admitted being in charge of a vehicle on Valentine's Day while almost three times the drink-drive limit.

Jason Richards, 52, pleaded guilty to the offence when he attended Telford Magistrates' Court last Friday (February 27).

The court was told how the defendant had been in charge of a Vauxhall Astra in Gate Street, Oswestry, on February 14.

A breathalyser test showed he had 98 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35ug.

Richards, of Pontyblew, near Chirk, pleaded guilty at the hearing.

Magistrates fined him £600 and endorsed his driving licence with 10 penalty points.

Richards must also pay £85 court costs and a £240 victim surcharge.
