A doctor's surgery in Oswestry has apologised after patients received a text message inviting them to a cancer diagnosis event.
Plas Ffynnon Medical Centre sent out a 'batch message' after it was asked to advertise the event by NHS Shropshire Cancer Care Team.
However, the message was sent to hundreds of patients by mistake.
Many patients took to social media on Thursday night, stating it had caused a lot of concern and worry.
At around 8pm, the Middleton Road surgery issued a statement on its Facebook page.
They said: "Dear patients. Every GP surgery in Shropshire was asked by the NHS Shropshire Cancer Care Team to publicise an event.
"We were asked to send what is called a 'batch message' to patients. By mistake, the batch message was sent to all patients.
"We would like to apologise for this and for the distress that this has caused."
One Plas Ffynnon patient told the Advertizer that they had received a text message from the surgery this morning (Friday) apologising for the error.
They added: "I really didn't like the way it was sent out and how it was worded. How has this error happened?
"I was very worried to receive a message like that and I can't imagine how some of those receiving messages on behalf of their children must have felt.
"I found it very concerning and it was not nice to receive the message, especially after hours, so there was no way of contacting anyone.
"I have emailed the surgery and will be waiting to hear back from them."
The message included an invite from Shropshire Telford and Wrekin Cancer Programme Team for people to attend an NHS event to share their cancer diagnosis and care in Shropshire to help improve cancer services.
