A former insurance industry specialist is now the president of a club for retired people.
Ron Goldby, originally from Watford, was elected president of the Ellesmere Probus Club, which organises social events for retired people in the area.
Mr Goldby moved to North Shropshire four years ago after spending much of his career in the City of London, and living in the suburbs.
He graduated from Oxford University in 1963 with a degree in maths, before qualifying as an actuary five years later.
He spent much of his career working for a large UK insurance company, as well as being seconded to the European Commission in Brussels for three years, where he helped draft directives related to life assurances and pensions.
After retiring at the age of 55, Mr Goldby became involved in voluntary work, from helping local charities to providing transport for disabled people.
He and his wife, Judy, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in August.
He said: "We’re really enjoying country life in Ellesmere.
"I’m delighted to be part of Probus because it brings together retired and semi-retired people from all walks of life, and as we’ve moved from a different part of the country, it’s helped us to make new friends, as well as providing an opportunity to hear some fascinating talks on a whole range of subjects."
Following the annual general meeting, Mr Goldby takes over from the club’s first female president, Jo Jutson.
The club meets on the first and third Thursday of each month during winter and early spring, and once a month during the summer.
Membership has increased to 65 men and women in the past year, with an annual subscription of £20.
