Ellesmere families are busy preparing for the much-anticipated Winter Festival on November 29.

The festival, complete with a lighted parade, will see Father Christmas being transported around the town.

This parade, organised by Fizzgigs, Ellesmere’s community arts group, features lanterns made by the community.

The town hall has been busy with families making their lanterns for the festive event.

Fizzgigs member Jenny Wilbraham said: "It was lovely to see the town hall packed with happy people.

"It was a real family affair."

The parade will see Father Christmas arriving by boat at the Wharf, before being whisked away in a lantern-lit vehicle.

He will be joined by music from the Fizzjigs band and the lanterns made by individuals, groups, and Fizzgigs members, including the Brownies and Guides.

Joan Mowl, chairman of Fizzgigs, said: "It's not too late to make a lantern.

"Anyone can make a lantern and carry it in the parade."

There will be a second lantern-making workshop on November 26 from 5pm to 8pm at the town hall.

The workshop is free, with all materials supplied.

Ms Mowl said: "It is advisable to wear old clothes in case glue gets on them.

"Do, please, ensure every child is accompanied by an adult.

"We do also ask that at the parade, only one adult per lantern-carrying child."

Fizzgigs member Claire Cartlidge added: "There are always plenty of people on hand to give help.

"No experience is necessary."
