ELLESMERE’S 2024 carnival has been declared one of the best after crowds lined the streets for a day of fun on Saturday.
The carnival’s main event was a parade that passed through the town’s major streets before a big party was held at Cremorne Gardens, close to the Mere.
Alan Hinton, part of the organising committee, admitted the feedback to the big day has been overwhelmingly positive and that the people of Ellesmere came out to support those who gave up their time to make it happen.

“We were really pleased with how it all went,” he said.
“It’s probably one of the biggest we’ve have in them of crowd numbers for the parade and for crown numbers for the Mere party too.
“The parade is probably one of the most diverse we’ve had for a while and it was great that we had not one but three Morris Dancing teams.
“We had some burlesque dancers and some tribal belly dancers too.
“The Oswestry Raptors cheerleaders were there too as well as the Border Counties Gymnast club.
“A lot of people had a lot of fun and it was a really good community event.
“It couldn’t have happened without our volunteers, especially the marshals as without them the parade wouldn’t happen.
“The event felt bigger than it did even before Covid. We felt it was going to a big one and that feeling was correct.”
Alan added that as the town is growing in size, with more developments underway, the organisation of 2025’s event will require a lot of help.
And he said that anyone who does want to join the organisers can do some by contacting them over social media.
He added: “The town has grown and while it is still a relatively small committee, more people have come onboard to help us and more people helped set up from 9am on Friday.

“And with unpacking of the event that took us half a day on Sunday.
“We just want to thank everyone that came out to support us – we had two really good bands in Blozone and Beardsmith who helped keeps crowds down the Mere in Cremorne Gardens.
“Anyone who wishes to help next year by joining the committee is more than welcome so the planning for 2025 can start.”
