Chirk railway station has proudly been nominated in this year's National Rail Awards as a result of the hard work and dedication of its volunteers.
Founded in 2004, the Friends of Chirk Station is a voluntary group that has dedicated its time and effort to monitoring the unstaffed station.
As a result, the once unkept station has blossomed into the town's pride and joy, filled with plants and crops while promoting zero waste.
Transport for Wales has nominated the station in this year's awards in the 'Small Station of the Year' category which it won back in 2020.
A spokesperson for the voluntary group said: "All these awards don't come by accident but a lot of love and hard work from Friends of Chirk Station. Take a bow and keep up the good work."
The cleanliness of the station has also contributed to Chirk receiving it's Green Flag Award for 202/25 as part of the Keep Wales Tidy campaign.
RAIL’s 2024 National Rail Awards is Britain’s biggest and most respected rail awards which recognise and reward people, companies and initiatives that demonstrate innovation and excellence.

The National Rail Awards celebrate achievements and excellence across every aspect of the railway, from senior management to individuals on the front line, as well as safety triumphs, major engineering successes, and environmental sustainability.
They recognise outstanding accomplishments over the past year, but particularly look to highlight initiatives which deliver measurable improvements in performance.
By doing so, the rail industry ‘Oscars’ seek to promote the industry’s longer-term success and sustainability, which relies on a highly skilled, diverse, motivated and engaged workforce, and exceptional leaders.
