A PROMISING young businesswoman from near Oswestry is celebrating after she picked up a gong at the prestigious Shropshire Business Awards last week.
Maddie Hughes, 20 and from West Felton, works for Agritel Packaging Supplies on the Gledrid Industrial Park in Chirk, where she is responsible for overseeing the company’s E-commerce.
On Friday, June 21, she and her colleagues headed to the Shropshire Business Awards – the most prestigious evening in the working calendar – where she was named the best young business person.

Maddie admitted that hearing her name was a surprise, albeit a welcome one.
“I had no idea I was going to win so it was a bit of a surprise,” she said.
“It was a bit of a shock but I was happy that we could have the team there to celebrate it all with me but I’m really happy to have won.
“I was shocked at first and there was a bit of disbelief but it sunk in later on and I was so happy.
“My is job is internal sales and to monitor the E-Commerce and mange that side of the business.
“We do trade through places like Amazon and E-Bay so it’s my job to make sure they are working properly.
“It’s lots of pressure but I love doing it because it’s a growing platform for the business and I’m really enjoying watching it grow alongside our traditional sales.
“The company is very proud of me too – I don’t know where this will take me but I’m just really happy to be learning each day.
“I didn’t celebrate too hard but we as a team did celebrate the night.”
Piran Littleton, Shropshire Chamber of Commerce president, praised all of the winners and said that anticipation for the 2024 event was felt in all four corners of the county.
“From the outset of this year’s event, the buzz of anticipation has been palpable,” said Piran.
