Ellesmere Town Council have voted to support Pride Month by flying the pride flag outside the Town Hall.
The flag will be raised between June 12 and 14 as part of the nationwide celebration that recognises the LGBTQ+ community and their contributions to society.
Oswestry Pride's representative Jenn Lister approached the council with the offer of a flag. Oswestry Pride are organising a number of events in the area throughout June, which is known as Pride month.
Ms Lister said: "2.3% of the population in Shropshire identify as not being heterosexual but many people within the LGBTQ+ community feel isolated and don’t feel welcome within their communities.
"Many are afraid to be openly and truly themselves.
"There is sometimes a fear about discussing LGBTQ+ people but the reality is that gay people are your teachers, your nurses, your employees, your family members, your sons and daughters.
"It is time to acknowledge the challenges they face because gay people deserve recognition and respect."
A spokesman for Ellesmere Town Council's echoed these sentiments and said: "We are proud to fly the flag as a show of solidarity and support to the LGBTQ+ residents who live in our community."
Also, Shropshire Council has approved displaying the pride flags on its market town buildings for a period of time in June.
