The annual Oswestry Community Games is returning this weekend, with more than 1000 expected to attend.

The popular event takes place on June 9 in Cae Glas Park from 11am to 4pm, featuring sport, music, crafts, and dance activities from organisations, from around the area.

The organisations in attendance will provide free 'Give it a go' sessions, offering attendees the chance to try out new activities.

This year the event is welcoming newcomers Swim with Style, The Moon Sisters - Yoga, Crafty Knitters, and Netball - Leagues4U.

Organisers are hoping visitors will find an activity they love and continue it beyond the event day.

Lead Organiser, James Manford said: "I am pleased to say that the excitement is reaching an ultimate high as final preparations are starting to come to place for this year’s event."

He also expressed his gratitude to the Town Council for their ongoing support and the free use of Cae Glas Park.

This year's guest of honour is set to be Darren Edwards, a disabled adventurer who famously ran seven marathons across seven continents in just seven days in 2023.

Mr Edwards will be raising funds on the day for "Wings for Life,", a non-profit spinal cord research foundation.

While Mr Manford also revealed that the group Pedal and Push will be providing food for the event for the first time.

Bartells, a group from the area will be returning to the games will be on hand to provide live music.

Oswestry Border Counties School of Gymnastics will perform at the closing ceremony, while the Town Crier, Phil Brown, will commence the games at 11am.

The new Town Council Mayor, Mike Isherwood, and David Davies will serve as MC for the day.

Mr Manford shared his thanks to Oswestry Town Council, Oswestry BID, Oswestry Sports Forum, Perspective Financial Group Ltd, DRE Accountants, Bunning Gas and Mary Hignett Bequest Fund for their financial support.

He said: "Without them, the Games would not happen!"
