A SHREWSBURY Crown Court judge has added a five-year sexual harm prevention order to an Oswestry man's suspended sentence for possession of extreme images. 

Simon Harris, 37 and of Sandford in Oswestry, was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, on Friday, May 3 for offences first discovered in 2017.

He returned to court again in front of Judge Peter Barrie to receive his SHPO after it could not be agreed between prosecutor John Oates and defence counsel Rosemary Proctor at the first sentencing.

Harris had previously been found guilty at trial but also cleared on other offences.

Harris, an IT expert, was told by Judge Barrie that his line of work ‘should have better informed hjs decision making’ at his sentencing.

He said: “As someone with a professional background in computers, you’re bound to understand when pornography becomes illegal because of its extremism.

“And also to understand the harm done to children when sexual abuse happens and is downloaded and distributed.

“It’s an aggravating factor that you were professionally involved in computers when you did this.”

Harris is also one month into a three-month curfew of 7pm until 5am, which has impacted upon his employment in networking for bringing businesses together.
