A FIRE at an Oswestry school on Monday afternoon prompted a call-out of Shropshire firefighters.

One Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crew from Ellesmere was sent to The Marches School in Morda Road at 6.02pm on Monday after reports of a fire in the open.

However, the fire was on when firefighters arrived from the nearby town.

A SFRS spokesman said: “It was a small fire involving grass cuttings, found to be out upon the arrival of the Fire Service – inspection only.”

A stop message was sent to SFRS control at 6.22pm to confirm no further support was required.
