THE owner of a daycare facility for dogs outside Oswestry says she is setting up a monthly coffee morning because ‘everything is better with a dog’.

Sarah Newey owns Tails and Trails Doggy Day Care in Whittington but prior to that served in the British Army and then trained as a teacher.

However, Sarah was unable to remain in teaching after she was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from her days in the armed forces.

OTHER NEWS:

As dogs have been ever-present in her life, she said took the decision to start the company – to great success – and now wants to provide a monthly safe space for veterans and members of the community to come, drink coffee and talk.

Sarah said: “I have recently started a new project looking at providing a service in the community.

“I have experience just how much the local mental health services are struggling with demand.

“With this in mind I set up some coffee mornings.

“One for the veteran community and one for the local community. It allows people to pop in, have a chat and a brew and pet some of the dogs.

“I firmly believe that everything is better with coffee and a dog.”

She added: “I am the proud owner of Whittington-based, Tails and Trails Doggy Day Care.

“After leaving the military I retrained as a teacher but found it very hard to settle.

“Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with PTSD and the only thing I found real comfort in was dogs.

“Dogs have been a constant throughout my life so I took a bit of a leap of faith and started a business which meant I could be around them all day and Tails and Trails was born.

“The purpose of the day care is to be a service that allows dogs to be in a safe and secure environment, living their best life, whilst their owners are at work. I’m running Tails and Trails because I genuinely love to be around dogs.

“I have a small daily number of dogs which gives me the time to get to know them, to know and understand their personalities and to add all the small touches to the service.

“I wanted to create something different, not just an outside play space but an indoor area that was stimulating but at the same time relaxing.”

Tails and Trails is based at Unit 6A on Whittington Business Park and the veterans coffee morning is at 10.30am until 12.30pm on the last Wednesday of each month.
