LUKE YOUNG has issued a rallying call ahead of tomorrow's top of the table clash against Mansfield Town, saying supporters have got a big part to play in the push for a second successive promotion.

Crowned National League champions following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, Phil Parkinson's men are challenging for a top-three finish in League Two.

After only taking one point from two home games, Wrexham got back to winning ways by beating Grimsby Town 3-1 at Blundell Park on Saturday and are third in the table, three points behind leaders Mansfield.

Stockport remain second and one point ahead of the Reds with a game in hand while fourth placed MK Dons are three adrift of the Reds, and Crewe Alexandra and Barrow are also challenging for automatic promotion.

Wrexham have seven games remaining, starting with the clash with table-toppers Mansfield at The Racecourse, and Young has called on fans to continue backing the players who will be doing everything they can to continue the success story.

"We go into every game trying to win it. We don't go into it trying to be negative and no-one goes into any game to not play well," said captain Young, the longest serving player in the squad along with goalkeeper Rob Lainton.

"Everyone is trying their best and doing their utmost to bring success to this football club.

"To have the fans behind us game in, game out, it drives us on. It does make a difference, them getting behind us and sticking with us.

"We are going to give everything that we have got between now and the end of the season, like we have done ever since I have been here and especially last season when we got promoted.

"Why can't we do it again? We need the fans as much as they need us, for them to bring the energy and bring the noise, and hopefully we can enjoy the end of the season when it comes."

Young has made more substitute appearances than starts in the league season.

Although he returned to the side for the 1-0 derby defeat to Tranmere Rovers, the 31-year-old was back on the bench at Grimsby where he came on with 20 minutes to go to help Wrexham secure victory.

Whatever role he plays during the remaining games, Young insists he will continue to help Wrexham get over the line.

"Everybody has got their part to play, myself included however that is going to be," he added.

"Whether that is starting, on the bench, coming off the bench or not involved, I will play my part in supporting the lads and driving everybody on to the best that I can and in any way that I can to not only help myself but help the lads as well.

"It is the same for everybody. Everybody has got one goal and one goal only, and that is to get promotion.

"I have full confidence in everybody that we will give it our all between now and the end of the season, and hopefully the end goal is getting promoted."
