PHIL PARKINSON will assess Jacob Mendy ahead of Friday's top-of-the-table clash with Mansfield Town at The Racecourse but Ryan Barnett could be in-line for a return.

Mendy was forced off early in the second half of Saturday's 3-1 win at Grimsby Town and although the wing-back is not set for a lengthy lay-off, is a doubt for the clash between the third placed Reds and Nigel Clough's leaders.

"Jacob has got a slight hamstring problem but it doesn't appear too serious at this stage," said Parkinson.

"There is something there but it's not a long-term injury. We will assess him later in the week."

James McClean is available after serving a two-match ban and could come into the side if Mendy is ruled out while Callum McFadzean is another option.

McFadzean has taken the final spot in Wrexham's squad submitted to the EFL and made his first league appearance of the season when he replaced Mendy at Blundell Park.

"We have got options in that position," said Parkinson.

"James is back from suspension and Callum did really well when he came on so we are pleased with him.

"Callum has trained very well in recent months and worked really hard.

"That showed in his performance in the reserves last Tuesday and against Grimsby."

Barnett missed the win after sustaining a badly bruised foot in the 1-0 derby defeat to Tranmere the previous weekend but Parkinson is pleased the injury is not serious and the wing-back could be available against Mansfield.

"Ryan has got a bruised foot but it is not going to keep him out any length of time," said the Reds' boss.

"We sent him for a precautionary scan and that came back all-clear.

"He has been out on the grass running so we will just take him day-by-day.

"Ryan wouldn't have been fit at Grimsby but he is going to be very close for this weekend."

Parkinson was monitoring the fitness of Anthony Forde, who has a back injury, before naming McFadzean in his squad and he confirmed: "Fordy will be out for the season.

"It's a shame for Fordy but he just needs to get himself 100 per cent right and ready for next season."
