WREXHAM gave their League Two automatic promotion hopes a boost after beating lowly Grimsby Town 3-1 at Blundell Park on Saturday.

The damage was done in the first half with Phil Parkinson's men leading 3-0 at the break thanks to two-goal Andy Cannon and top scorer Paul Mullin.

1. Is Andy Cannon a contender for player of the season?

Cannon made a slow start to the season, although he wasn't on his own as Wrexham took time to adapt to life at a higher level, but the 28-year-old has been one of the most consistent Reds' players over the last few months and shown why he has played in the Championship.

Although he has been used as a holding midfielder, Cannon is arguably at his best when he plays in a more advanced role.

With Tom O'Connor back in the side and sitting in front of the defence at Grimsby, Cannon was given licence to get forward more and he weighed in with two well-taken goals to take his tally for the season to five.

2.. Can Wrexham get back to normal at home and end their two-game drought?

It's unusual to be talking about Wrexham having a blip at home after making The Racecourse a fortress over the last three seasons.

The home form has been the platform for the promotion challenge in League Two but Phil Parkinson's men only took one point from their last two games at their iconic North Wales stadium

However, Wrexham created a host of chances in the goalless draw with Harrogate and 1-0 derby defeat to Tranmere, and just lacked a cutting edge in the final third, so if the Reds take their chances like they did at Grimsby when they were back to their clinical best then there's no reason why they can't pick up three points in Friday's top of the table clash with Mansfield at The Racecourse.

3. How big a part Wrexham fans have got to play in run-in.

Four of the remaining seven games in the promotion challenge are at The Racecourse where Wrexham boast a brilliant record, even if they failed to win any of their previous two matches.

But Reds' supporters continued to get behind their side in those fixtures with Harrogate and Tranmere, and you know they will get The Racecourse rocking for the top of the table clash with Mansfield Town on Good Friday.

An electric atmosphere brings the best out in Wrexham and fans can again play their part as the players aim to secure another win in the quest for a top-three finish.
