PHIL PARKINSON believes Wrexham's 'top class' second goal in the 3-1 win at Grimsby would be on repeat-mode if it had been scored in the Premier League.

The Reds scored a classic counter-attack goal, with Paul Mullin riding a couple of challenges in his own half before feeding Tom O'Connor who played a superb pass through to Andy Cannon and the midfielder fired past goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright from an acute angle.

It will go down as a contender for the Reds' goal of the season award and Parkinson says it was a superb move from start to finish.

"We scored some great goals against Grimsby," said the Reds' boss.

"The goal on the counter-attack, if you saw that in the Premier League people would be replaying it quite a lot.

"It was a great bit of skill by Mulls, a great run by Tom and weight of pass, and what a finish that was.

"That was a top class goal."

Cannon gave Wrexham an early lead, finding the bottom corner with a low drive from outside the area.

"The first one was brilliant as well," said Parkinson.

"We spoke to the lads about concentration levels when you get in, of shooting low and hitting the target, and Andy did that.

"They are the perfect ones where they bounce just before the keeper and they end up in the back of the net."

Leading scorer Mullin made it 3-0 with a stunning volley on the turn after Jacob Mendy's shot was blocked in the area, earning more praise from Parkinson.

"That's a goalscorer's finish of the highest order," he said.

"He has hooked that in and don't under-estimate that skill because that was not easy."

Mullin, who has been nursing a hamstring problem, took his tally for the season to 18 goals and 97 in total for Wrexham who he joined in the summer of 2021 from Cambridge United.

"Mulls has been great the last few weeks. He has really got his sharpness back," added Parkinson.

"He has had this problem with his hamstring which we have resolved with the injection.

"He had a little bit of a breather through that period in February when we had a lot of away games and he looks a rejuvenated player."
