A family have called for the “horrendous” potholes in their road to be fixed after they burst three tyres in two months.

Erica Jones and her daughter Holly are calling for Powys County Council to fix their road which is becoming almost impossible to drive on and has cost them hundreds of pounds in car repairs.

“The potholes are so bad delivery drivers are refusing to deliver to us,” said Erica. “You just can’t miss them anymore. They’re horrendous.”

The family, who live just outside Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, have said the road has not been fixed in many years and that up until a few years ago repairs consisted of local farmers filling the holes with hardcore.

OTHER NEWS:

The severity of the potholes, which are frequently ankle deep, have led to Holly, who works as a dental nurse in Oswestry, bursting her tyres three times in two months.

“Holly has had to pay over £300,” said Erica. “We are just about okay because we have a big 4x4 but she has a Mini. It burst the same tyre in the space of a week and a third one on the other side.”

Even with a 4x4 Erica has said her and partner Phil are finding it tricky.

“It is taking us nearly 15 minutes just to get to the Tanat Valley road,” said Erica. “It should only take us maybe five to seven minutes roughly.”

“You have to take it all in first gear and just kind of glide over while trying to cover the chicanes caused by the potholes.”

To make matters worse the verge on the side of the road is also in poor condition.

“Either side of the road has collapsed meaning it impossible to go around the outside,” said Erica. “I’m amazed someone hasn’t gone off the road and into a ditch to be honest with you.”

The family have made a complaint to Powys County Council to call for some basic repairs to be made to make it safer but have yet to hear back.

In response to an enquiry by the County Times, a spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “We are aware of potholes on this unclassified road near Llanrhaeadr-Ym-Mochnant, which will be repaired when resources allow.”
