CARE staff at a home in Gobowen have told of their delight at arranging a ‘wedding’ ceremony for one of their residents.

Terminally-ill Cath Heggarty has lived at Meadowbrook care home, where people with complex nursing needs and learning disabilities are supported, since April 2016.

The blessing, which was conducted by a vicar, was with her fiancé of four years Peter Hinchley and staff at the home in Twmpath Lane said they were delighted to help.

Home manager Elle O’Hara said: “I am truly grateful and proud of everyone at Meadowbrook for making a difference and for going above and beyond taking time out of their own day to help where needed.

“The care and dedication shown by all is why Meadowbrook thrives continuously.”

A spokesman for the home said that staff worked hard to provide a day to remember for Cath and Peter, though said that because time is limited, an actual wedding could not be planned.

They added: “As much as person-centred care goes, we tried to get the marriage in place, but this would have taken time to process and we are unsure of how much time we have.

“We all joined together to make the day as close to a marriage as possible by having the day every person dreams of, as far as a wedding day goes.

“Although, it wasn’t a legal marriage, it was a wonderful day held with a vicar carrying out a blessing surrounded by family and friends, care staff were bridesmaids and one being an usher and one a best man, we all made sure Cath and Peter had that very special day.

“We also all enjoyed a hen party for Cath at Meadowbrook with a takeaway and karaoke.”

Elle, with deputy manager Natasha Corcoran, added they were ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity and kindness of all the businesses involved that gave their free time and allowed the home to hire their supplies for free.

“The photographer was Ethan Gilbert while media and DJ was Happy Sounds mobile disco, Floral wall – TMS Events, The No Bling Eco and Wedding party hire, and Button hole was Flower Gallery.
