A NEWTOWN man accused of twice strangling a woman at his home was set free on Thursday after no evidence was offered by the Crown.
Jonathan Rodgers, 40, was set to stand trial in March for two counts of strangling a woman, and one count of damaging her coat on November 12 last year.
He had been remanded in custody over the Christmas period while he was he was waiting for his trial to begin after he had pleaded not guilty last month.

Rodgers, of Violet Close, Newtown, appeared on a video link from HMP Berwyn before Judge Nicola Saffman at Mold Crown Court on Thursday.
He was told that no evidence was to be offered in the case regarding the three charges but he did admit damaging a phone belonging to the woman, costing around £329.
Judge Saffman fined Rodgers £200 and sentenced him to seven days, which he has already served meaning he will be released.
No costs or compensation were ordered.
