A FINE-dining Indian restaurant in Oswestry is set to expand its business with an eatery in the heart of the town.

Mumbai Maska is set to take over the beloved Lepone's Italian Restaurant in Oswald Road.

Oswestry Pub Scene, a Facebook page dedicated to the town’s pub life, has announced the change in a post on social media.

It read: “As we say a sad goodbye to a local restaurant (Lepone's Italian Restaurant, Oswestry) we will soon welcome another (Mumbai Maska Oswestry) with open arms.”

The Indian restaurant currently resides in Lion Quays Luxury Hotel and Spa Resort, and its name in Hindu language translates to ‘Cream of Mumbai’.

They also have eateries in London and Staffordshire, and they offer authentic flavours, including all that Indian cuisine has to offer.

Last year, the owner of Lepone’s, Paolo Lepone, confirmed that they are not closing and were set to convert the place to a two-bedroom apartment.

The former owner of the building clarified at the time that the restaurant was not set to close, but just wanted to bring back its pre-Covid ‘confidence’.

The planning application did get approved by Shropshire Council, but unfortunately it never came to fruition.

Mumbai Maska is set to take over soon, with no confirmed date.

The building, a former Presbyterian church has served as a furniture store before it became a restaurant.

Mumbai Maska has been approached for a comment.
