A HISTORIC aqueduct has temporarily closed for over two months due to a periodic inspection

The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and  its towpath has closed to boats and pedestrians, and are scheduled to reopen on March 16, 2024.

A spokesperson from the Heritage site said that this is needed for dewatering.

They said: “Get your boots on, gather the family and enjoy a walk over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct during the festive period, prior a temporary closure in the new year.

“Both the Aqueduct and towpath will re-open on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

“This is due to the aqueduct being dewatered (the water being pumped away) for a periodic inspection.

“Of course, there will still be plenty of the beautiful 11 mile stretch to explore in Chirk, Llangollen and the Horseshoe Falls.”

Maintenance work is conducted during winter to keep inconvenience to a minimum.
