A LOYAL supporter of a charity that fights cruelty against children was honoured recently for completing 50 years of service to the national organisation.

Daphne Evans joined the Oswestry Young National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)committee in November 1973 and has worked tirelessly as its treasurer and of the Welsh Border Branch since that time.

At a recent fundraising coffee morning in Oswestry Memorial Hall, in Smithfield Street, she was presented with a Gold Award by Jess Finnegan, NSPCC community fundraising and partnerships manager for North Wales and the Welsh Borders.

As well as a gold bracelet and badge, Daphne received a certificate with a congratulatory message of “The Board of Trustees wish to show its grateful appreciation to Daphne Evans for her loyal service to the NSPCC’ inscribed on it.

Daphne said that was surprised at reaching the milestone because of the amount of fun she has had in helping to raise money and awareness.

She added: “Fifty years have flown by so quickly and in that time I have had a lot of fun organising our various fundraising events.

“I don’t begrudge a minute of the time I have spent being involved with the NSPCC.”

An NSPCC spokesman added: “As treasurer, Daphne was naturally delighted that a staggering £1,079 was taken at the coffee morning with further donations coming in after the event.

“The committee would like to thank everyone who attended for their generous support of the NSPCC and the many children it supports year on year.”

Meanwhile, the latest Young NSPCC draw for November has been announced.

The 3rd  130 Club draw has been made and the winners are Libby Hughes with £30, Sue Barr with £20 and Beccy Grundy with £12.
