AN OSWESTRY firm has been recognised for its support of a cancer charity at this year's Coracle World Championship.

Pickstock Homes Ltd were delighted to be awarded the Richard Bayliss Cup in recognition of their fundraising efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thanks to the support of their staff, suppliers and sub-contractors they were successful in securing the highest level of sponsorship for this year’s event raising £4,213 including Gift Aid in support of this worthwhile cause.

On a warm sunny day in early September Pickstock Homes’ two teams took to the water to compete with 48 others gathered from around Shropshire at the Coracle World Championship.

The annual event held at the Pengwern Boat Club in Shrewsbury delivers a fun day where competitors are required to paddle the unstable crafts across the width of the River Severn and back again in a relay race which results in an extremely entertaining competition with many coracles either capsizing or sinking along the way.

Nick Scott, managing director of Pickstock Homes, said: "we look forward to taking part in the Coracle World Championships every September, the event is brilliantly organised and provides a great day out for the company, allowing us to enjoy ourselves whilst raising money in support of Macmillan.

"We really appreciate the generosity of all who sponsored us in aid of Macmillan, who do such vital work in helping people get through cancer.”

Kate Thomas, relationship fundraising manager for Macmillan, said: “A huge thank you to Pickstock Homes and to everyone who donated to them in raising such a fantastic amount at the Coracle World Championships this year.

"The money raised at the Coracle World Championships helps Macmillan fund services in Shropshire, such as The MacMillan Information & Support Centres based at both the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospitals providing support to cancer patients, carers, family and friends."
