OSWESTRY is getting ready to count down to Christmas with its beloved ‘Lights Switch On’ set to take place this week.

The event is set to take place on Thursday, November 16, at the Bailey Head.

The fun is set to begin at 4pm with performances before the lights are switched on at 6.30pm.

Oswestry Town Council shared on Facebook: “The fun starts at 4pm with performances from local schools, colleges, dance, and drama groups.

“There will be special characters, choirs, food, and stalls and once the lights come on, local teenage bands Public Rest Room and Small Furry Animals will perform to finish the evening.

“There may even be a special visit from the big man.”

The event, which was launched virtually in 2020 by former mayor Councillor Duncan Kerr because of the Covid-19 lockdown, brought the town to life ahead of the switch on.

The switch-on marks the countdown to Christmas in Oswestry and gathers thousand in the town centre.

The next event for Christmas in Oswestry comes on Friday, December 1 with Christmas Live, with huge amusement rides, ice rink, Christmas stalls, late night shopping, Santa’s Grotto, live music and more.

This will be followed the Santa Run on Sunday, December 3.
