A CHIRK Bank garage fire yesterday was ‘severe’ according to fire crews that responded from Oswestry.

Three fire appliances were mobilised from Oswestry to tackle the blaze in Chirk Bank, Wrexham, at about 2pm.

James Lewis, Oswestry Watch Manager, said in a post on social media: "Today, our colleagues in control at SFRS received a call about a severe garage fire in Chirk Bank, Wrexham.

“Firefighters from Oswestry were immediately mobilised along with two other fire appliances from Wrexham.”

Crews used two hosereel jet, two breathing apparatuses, a thermal imaging camera and a covering jet to put out the ‘intense’ fire.

James added: “Our crews faced challenging conditions due to narrow access to the incident.

“Oswestry crews were assisted by the North Wales Fire Service, who helped ferry water from a nearby hydrant.

“Thick black smoke billowed from the site, visible from some distance."

A stop message, confirming no further assistance was needed, was sent out to control at 3.06pm.

Crews returned for an inspection of the site at 7.30pm.
