LLYNCLYS residents are demanding ‘real action’ to make a controversial crossroads between Oswestry and Welshpool safer, it has been claimed.

Llynclys Crossroads, on the A483, has been the location of a number of road traffic collisions and many more near misses for many years.

Most recently this summer, three people had to be taken to hospital – including a child – after a collision.

And now North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan says that after speaking to residents around the Crossroads, it is time for greater measures to be taken to improve safety.

She said: “Residents in Llynclys want to see real action to improve road safety at the crossroads, not just words.

“I’ve been doing all I can to push forward the campaign for improvements and to put the case for local people across as clearly as possible.

“Thank you to all the residents in Llynclys who stopped to chat and shared their views.

“This is a huge issue that impacts safety for all the nearby villages and anyone heading into Oswestry from the Llanymynech side of Shropshire, so I am very keen to see progress made soon.

“We had more than 400 signatures on our petition to improve safety on the A483 from our teams going around the villages which the road passes through, which was a good proportion of households in the area.

OTHER NEWS:

“So there is clear public demand to sort this problem out.”

Her call comes after the Wem-based MP spent time out on the doorstep talking to Llynclys residents amid an ongoing campaign to improve safety along the A483 and at the Crossroads.

Mrs Morgan had also, earlier in the year, petitioned constituents on the need for road safety improvements alongside the A483.

The MP – elected in December 2021 – added that she has regularly met with representatives from National Highways, West Mercia Police and the Welsh Government regarding calls for improvements.

She added: “Many residents raised the need for a lower speed limit and stronger enforcement measures along the stretch.”
