MORE donations are needed to help the work of Oswestry's Foodbank, according to the local MP.

North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan called into the Oswestry and Borders Foodbank in Beatrice Street on Monday (August 21) to see for herself the work that was being carried out.

She admitted she was humbled by the experience of talking to organisers and staff about what they provide for the most vulnerable residents of Oswestry.

"It was humbling to visit the Oswestry and Borders Foodbank, and see the being work done by local volunteers,” she said.

“But it was also clear that more support is needed – both through donations to the foodbank and action from the government on the cost-of-living crisis.

The Oswestry and Borders Foodbank - which has helped 2,751 people since April 2023 alone with deliveries of 21 tonnes of food – is in need of donations because of demand for their services outstripping supply.

She praised the work done by volunteers at the foodbank and called for more support for residents dealing with cost of living pressures.

This week, staff at the foodbank took to social media to appeal for me donations, with an emphasis on custard, rice pudding, fruit, beans, spaghetti and meat.

A spokesman said: “Items can be donated at supermarket collection points or brought directly to the back door of the foodbank during our opening hours.

“Thank you so much for your support.”
