THERE were great ‘snakescapades’ at Oswestry Library this week as youngsters learned all about the natural world.

Exotic animal expert Simon Airey, from Corner Exotics, was at the library in Arthur Street on Wednesday (Aug 2) to show off reptiles and mammals.

He brought a variety of snakes, including a boa constrictor and a Royal python, as well as lizards, toads, and plenty of cute mammals too.

Siobhan Shaw, library manager in Oswestry, joined in too, getting up close and personal with the boa, and she was delighted with how the day went.

She said: "It was a great joy to see so many bright and engaging children in the library with Simon who gave them a day to remember.

“He brought a range of animals for the children to see, as well as the adults, and we think everybody thoroughly enjoyed their time.

OTHER NEWS:

“This is a vital event for young people and the library because while it was fun for them to hold snakes, lizards and all sorts of exotic animals, they were also educated on the roles they play in nature.

“Plus they were encouraged to play a part in ensuring the planet's safety for future generations.

“It was great to get up close and personal with a boa constrictor and see so many of the children enjoy the animals.

“I also want to say a massive thank you to the Friends of Oswestry Library who funded the event which allowed it to be hugely affordable for those who came.

“Not all of our events are fully booked yet and there is still time to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge, so we hope to see you soon at Oswestry Library.”

Youngsters were treated to a variety of animals including tarantulas, a scorpion, a variety of frogs, a chameleon and a bearded dragon.

Simon filled their heads with facts and stats about the animals’ evolution and the role they play in the eco-system.
