A PAIR of giraffes that went missing in Oswestry's Cae Glas Park - yes, you did read that correctly - have been 'found'.

Readers got in touch with the Advertizer recently to say that the duo, who were installed in the park's crazy golf section, had mysteriously disappeared with no explanation as to where they had gone.

The giraffes were installed in 2013 as part of the Oswestry Urban Trail which features a series of animal sculptures around the town which were gifted by the British Ironwork Centre based off the A5.

However, Oswestry Town Council which runs the park has now explained that the giraffes didn’t run off to pastures new, but rather, they were taken away for some maintenance work.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The British Ironwork Centre originally collected the giraffes from Cae Glas Park to carry out maintenance work.

“The council has recently been informed that corrosion on the giraffes is substantial and therefore they won’t be available to return for some time.”

But don't worry, the space where the giraffes were won’t remain empty for long.

Mayor of Oswestry, Cllr Olly Rose, along with officers of the council will be visiting the British Ironwork Centre on Friday July 21 to select a piece that can go into the park to take their place.
