LAST week, the Rotary Clubs of Oswestry and Cambrian had the pleasure of welcoming a group of eight visitors from New Zealand's North Island.

This visit marked a return exchange after a local rotarians had the opportunity to explore New Zealand just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The four-day visit was filled with exciting activities and sightseeing, showcasing the natural beauty and historical landmarks of the region.

As part of their visit, the group attended a Rotary Meeting, where they were treated to a delightful Fish and Chip Supper.

A Spokesperson from the Rotary clubs said: “One very interesting fact emerged.

“One of our guests mentioned her family originated from Berriew by the name of Tyldesley and she had a photograph of the family home taken in 1902.”

Intrigued by the challenge, the group embarked on a trip to Berriew and stopped by the village's Deli, where they were informed that a Barbara Tyldesley had resided in The Old Post Office until five years ago.

Determined to uncover the family's history, they managed to locate the house, gain entry, and successfully copy the treasured 1902 photo.

The group enjoyed visits to notable attractions such as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Plas Newydd House in Llangollen, Chirk Castle, and Walford College in Baschurch, all under the warm embrace of beautiful sunshine.

Another evening was dedicated to an idyllic Picnic in the Park at Gatacre Park, taking full advantage of the stunning weather.

With their time in Oswestry coming to an end, the group has now embarked on the next leg of their journey, spending a few days with new hosts in The Wirral and Liverpool.

These Rotary Club exchanges not only raise funds for charitable causes but also foster lifelong experiences, create lasting friendships, and promote cultural understanding and appreciation.
