MEMBERS of a social club for older people were given a VIP visit this week when Ellesmere’s mayor dropped by.

Councillor Anne Wignall, in her second year as mayor, called into Ellesmere’s Thursday Social Club at the town hall in Willow Street to meet the members and find out more about it.

Volunteers run a full day of activities and serve morning coffee, a two-course lunch, and afternoon tea with cake.

Every week there is entertainment, perhaps a speaker or a demonstration, games, crafts and reminiscence, and seated exercise once a month. Music and sing-a-longs are an important part of the mix.

Cllr Wignall said she was delighted to visit the club.
