A WOMAN who was more than twice the alcohol limit crashed into a parked car which she thought was moving, a court heard.

Carla Buttler, of Judge Meadow in Oswestry, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (June 6).

The 33-year-old admitted that on April 29, she drove a Vauxhall Grandland in Gutter Hill, Rhos, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in her breath exceeded the prescribed limit.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court that at around 10.30pm on the day of the offence, a resident of Gutter Hill heard a loud crash.

Buttler had collided with the resident's parked car.

The police were called once it was realised the defendant smelled of intoxicants and was slurring her words.

After her arrest and being checked over in hospital, she provided an evidential sample of 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the limit being 35.

She told officers the Grandland had been her father's mobility vehicle and that on the day, she'd been to the pub with her partner in Rhos.

Buttler claimed to have consumed five cocktails before an argument broke out with her partner.

She left the pub and intended to drive back to his house, but collided with the parked car - which she thought was moving.

Border Counties Advertizer:

Stephen Edwards, defending, told the court: "She's ashamed of appearing here, she's never been in trouble before.

"At the time of this offence, she was in a relationship with a man from Rhos - that's not now ongoing."

Mr Edwards said his client had become emotional after the argument with her then partner and made a "split-second" decision to get behind the wheel.

"It was a misjudgement on her part," he said.

"Clearly she should not have been driving - she's never made a mistake as bad as this in her life."

Buttler was fined £230 and was ordered to pay a £92 victim surcharge, as well as £85 costs.

She was also banned from driving for 17 months.
