AN OSWESTRY woman is hosting an afternoon tea in Whittington next week as part of her fundraising for a national beauty pageant.

Tracey Anson, 48, moved to the town from Coventry with her family, and has life-limiting conditions, leaving her in a wheelchair, and is also now losing her sight.

But her positive spirit means she is continuing to embrace life and its challenges and has enrolled in the competition called UK Endeavour, with Tracey representing Oswestry and Shropshire.

She said: “It’s called UK Endeavour and it started out as a charity set up for young people in Warrington during Covid-19 and has been running as a pageant for two years.

“Originally, I was competing with my friend in her pageant but she wanted to do something for young homeless people in Warrington in Cheshire.

“But she then asked me if I wanted to be part of a national event and I said yes.

“I’m a wheelchair user with life-limiting conditions, and I’m losing my sight, so I wanted to show that we can still do things that we want to and nothing can stop them.”

She added: “This pageant system has allowed me grow in myself, gain confidence and encourage me along the way.

“I wish to show that you can do anything no matter what.”

With the charity tea event to be at Whittington Community Hall on Saturday, June 10 and with special guest Councillor Olly Rose, mayor of Oswestry, Tracey says it is part of work participants have to undertake.

And her own fundraising is part of the change sin her life, but wanting to help others.

She continued: “It’s a positive thing to do when I don’t always feel positive every day.

“We’re encouraged to raise funds for UK Endeavour the beauty [pageant charity that helps young people from disadvantageous backgrounds.

“But I’m also fundraising for Guide Dogs – I can’t have one because I’m in a wheelchair but I would like to raise money for someone whose dream it is.

“And it’s about taking on challenges – I’m now the Oswestry Fundraising co-ordinator which is something I’d have never taken on with this.”

Anyone wishing to take part in the charity afternoon, raising money for Guide Dogs and Streetz CIC, it runs from 2-5pm and donations on the day are welcome.
