OSWESTRY is gearing up for a series of exciting events as the town looks to mark 'Love Your Local Market' fortnight.

The campaign, which runs across 25 countries between May 12 and 27, not only celebrates markets but also aims to provide opportunities for new businesses to try their hand at market trading for free or at discounted rates.

The international launch took place over the weekend jointly in France and Germany with 3,000 local markets represented and in Oswestry, our town markets have some special events lined up.

OTHER NEWS:

Every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, the Oswestry comes alive with a vibrant array of bespoke businesses offering an eclectic mix of goods, ranging from freshly baked cakes and bread to antiques and unique gifts.

On Wednesday, May 17, Oswestry Town Market hosted a special Youth Market, where North Shropshire College and Oswestry School, plus others set up stalls alongside the regular Wednesday indoor and outdoor markets.

This collaborative effort between Oswestry Town Council and the schools aimed to offer young people an invaluable opportunity to gain retail experience and develop essential sales and customer service skills.

The event was attended by Oswestry Mayor, Councillor Olly Rose, and David Preston, the chief executive of NABMA (National Association British Markets Authority).

Meanwhile, on Friday, May 26, the monthly Artisan Market coincides with a 'Grow Your Own' gardening event, where visitors can expect expert advice on seed sowing, vegetable cultivation, compost making, hanging basket planting, flower arranging, and more.

Various organizations, including Oswestry in Bloom, The Garden Society, Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Shropshire Hardy Plants Society, and local allotments, will be present to share their knowledge and offer plants for sale.

The bustling market will also feature Oswestry's Artisan Street Market, where visitors can explore an enticing selection of local produce, unique crafts, and delightful treats.

The Powis Indoor Market will extend its hours into the evening, creating a lively atmosphere with delectable food, drinks, and live music.

Looking ahead, Oswestry Town Markets is set to host a special outdoor Charity Market on Friday, June 2.

Charities will be provided with free stalls to raise awareness, offer advice, recruit volunteers, and fundraise for their respective causes.
