AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl from Chirk Bank has helped to bring recycling bins to an Oswestry park.

Demi Morton, who is part of the Girl Guiding group in Whittington, is trying to win the Gold Award for her local Brownie branch.

As part of her quest, she decided to go around Cae Glas Park and count the number of recycling bins, and realised there weren't any.

So she called on the Mayor of Oswestry to help her turn things around.

Her mother, Charlotte Hatley, said: “She sent a letter to the mayor [Cllr Jay Moore] asking him what the next steps would be to make this possible, and how she would go about making a petition.

“He then just took it forward in front of the council and got the approval for the new bins.

“She has been really excited and proud of herself.”

She continued: “We try and help her do the work and win all her badges, supporting her in her journey the best we can.”

The eight-year-old has won the Gold Award before for the Rainbows, and is doing her best to win it again.

Councillor Jay Moore, who was on hand to present Demi with one of her badges and unveil the new bins recently, added: “She wrote to me asking for recycling bins in Cae Glas Park, and over the weekend, they were installed.

“Well done, Demi, for taking the time to think about how to improve our lovely park and making sure your ideas were listened to.

“Another Brownies badge in the bag.”
