IT WILL be ready, steady, crown for Ellesmere residents after a cake competition was launched to mark King Charles III’s coronation next month.

Ellesmere residents and visitors are being encouraged to bake for the Coronation Cake Competition which is raising money for charities supported by the current town mayor Councillor Anne Wignall.

Cllr Wignall urged anyone whose hobby is to bake and decorate to get involved, regardless of their abilities as part of the weekend of celebrations and raising money.

She said: "This competition is for anyone who enjoys baking. You don't have to be an expert - it's just a bit of fun that is also raising funds for good causes."

The cakes can be large or small, any flavour, any design, as long as they are on the theme of the King's Coronation.

The cakes should be brought to the Ellesmere Rangers Club House, Beech Grove, between 10 and 11am on Monday, May 8.

The cakes will be judged after the coronation parade which starts at 12.30pm at the Recreation Ground and will be auctioned off by Bob McBride in aid of the Food and Warm Clothes Sharing Project and local youth organisations.

First prize is Afternoon Tea for Two kindly donated by the Boathouse Restaurant based at the Mere in Ellesmere.

The competition is part of the Community Picnic taking place between 12pm and 4pm at Beech Grove Recreation Ground.

A list of ingredients must be provided with each cake to protect people with allergies.
