MEMBERS and visitors to an Oswestry history group will be given the lowdown of a dig at Shrewsbury Castle as part of its next meeting.

Oswestry and Border History and Archaeology Group will next meet on Friday, April 14 in the Methodist Church Hall, Castle Street, at 7.30 pm.

A spokesman for the group says, once the in-house business is completed, they are looking forward to the talk from Dr Nigel Baker.

They said: “Following a brief annual general meeting, Dr Baker will talk on the recent excavations at Shrewsbury Castle.

“For the past three years, a dedicated team of professionals, students and National Trust volunteers have worked to improve our understanding of the castle’s 1,000-year history.

“This is ranging from its Saxon and Norman beginnings, through Henry III’s campaigns, the Civil War, and Thomas Telford’s makeover.”
