AN INDEPENDENT boarding school in Oswestry has confirmed that one of its pupils died in her sleep last weekend.

Oswestry School, in Upper Brook Street, confirmed the news on Tuesday, March 21 that the teenager, who was a Year 13 pupil, was found in her dormitory on Saturday morning.

She has not been named by the school staff there, who have asked that the privacy of her family and friends be respected.

A spokesman for the school, which says it is supporting staff and pupils as well as the girl’s family, said they are going through a difficult time.

They said: "It is with immense sadness that we confirm the tragic news that a Year 13 pupil from Oswestry School passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Saturday, March 18.

"This is an incredibly difficult time for the whole school and our thoughts and prayers are especially with her family.

"Our priority is supporting our pupils and staff, and her family.

“We respectfully ask for privacy and compassion for the family and the school community during this painful time."
