OSWESTRY'S heritage railway has confirmed it will be taking part in a national event later this year.

Cambrian Heritage Railway, which is based in the town centre, has signed up to take part in the National Heritage Open weekends in September.

The Open Days festival, which has been successful in the town for many years, takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10, and 16 and 17, and will give the public free access to hundreds of heritage sites across England which are normally closed or require an entrance fee.

OTHER NEWS:

For North Shropshire train spotters, this will include a full train service from Oswestry to Weston Wharf, Llynclys to Pennygarreg Halt, and a bus service linking the two rail operations together.

The Oswestry South Signal Box, Oswestry Railway Museum and Weston Wharf Goods Shed will also be open to the public, with no additional cost other than the usual rover ticket fee.

The National Heritage Open Days is a chance to explore hidden places and new experiences, as part of England’s largest festival of history and culture.
