CAMBRIAN Heritage Railways has received the second place at prestigious awards for their hard work on the Weston Wharf Extension Project.

The Oswestry-based Railways was the runner up in the Infrastructure category at the Heritage Railways Association Annual Awards.

The team announced the success on its Facebook page, and thanked the public for its support in making the project possible.

In a statement posted online the group said: "We would like to thank each and every one of our customers, followers, members, supporters and volunteers without you none of this would be possible, while we didn't win this award, we are immensely proud to have been shortlisted."

They have also included a few words from their head of operations, Phil Bradley.

He added: "Genuinely couldn’t be prouder of the huge team effort at Cambrian Heritage Railways over the many years and in recent years.

"Whilst we didn’t win tonight being shortlisted was no mean feat."

The Heritage Railway Association is a UK-wide trade body representing heritage railways, tramways, cliff railways, museums and rolling stock owners.

They have been established to make the public understand the role that heritage rail plays in society, cultural life and economic success.

Hampton and Kempton Waterworks Railway were in the first place for the awards, and Cambrian Heriatage Railways are extending their congratulations to them also.
