PREPARATIONS for spring were at the heart of the latest Ellesmere Flower Club meeting.

The joys of engaging with spring flowers and foliage were on full display last Thursday, February 23, in Ellesmere Town Hall as club members watched talented Leanne Williams, from Welshpool, create delightfully colourful and attractive designs for her audience.

A club spokesman said: “Leanne was demonstrating her title 'Seasonal Sensations' and appropriately introduced a range of sweetly scented and cheerful handtied spring bouquets alongside tips and ideas for Easter designs.

“She was welcomed and thanked for an enjoyable evening by chairman Sylvia Williams.

“Winners of the designs were Gwen Birch,Val Jones, Deryl Bennion, Pauline Burrell, Ruth Evans, Sarah Cooke, Ann Williams, Sheila Griffiths nee Lewis, Joy Lea, Sue Edwards, Rosemary Johnson and Myfi Jones.

“The hostesses for the evening were Jill Dyke, Lynne Rowlands and her sister Claire.

“Tea and biscuits were provided and served by Brenda Hughes and Ann Hughes.”

Sylvia announced the forthcoming M&NW Area event 'Fun, Friendship for Flowers' at Cockshutt Millennium Hall on April 24 from 12.30pm.

Talented members of the area will present a floral play and presentation along with floral demonstrations by Jane Pugh, Janet Blake, Anita Wright and the club's very own Kate Edwards.

The spokesman added: “Ellesmere members will also be assisting with tea and coffee.

“Everyone is most welcome with tickets on sale at £20 from area treasurer Sheila Jones at sheilajones53@hotmail.com or if interested contact club secretary Ruth Clarke.”

The next club meeting will take place on Thursday, March 23 at 7.30pm in Ellesmere Town Hall when NAFAS Cheshire Area demonstrator Alison Cooper and award winning floral designer from Manchester will present “A Form of Nature”.

The club welcomes potential new members and all visitors ­– £8 on the door.
