THE latest edition of a sporting extravaganza that promotes health and well-being has been announced for 2023.

The annual Oswestry Community Games will return to Cae Glas Park on Sunday, June 11 for a day of fun and education for people in the town.

James Manford, lead organiser of the Games, said he and his fellow organisers were looking to emulate 2022’s success.

He said: “Last year, we had more than 1,000 people of all ages visiting the Community Games after an absence of three long years.

“I am extremely excited to be leading the organising committee for my second Oswestry Community Games.

“I can't wait to invite the whole community to come back to the heart of the town in Cae Glas Park for fun, action, music and (organised) chaos.”

The event on Sunday, June 11 in Cae Glas Park will run from 11am-3.45pm and any organisation that would like to provide “give it a go” activities are welcome to get in touch with the Games committee.

Clive Knight, from the Games, said the provision of the activities is central to what the Games is about, encouraging people to take up new skills.

He said: “We would love to hear from you as we always strive to improve our already wide range of activities targeting health and wellbeing.

“Please email us asap, or by Wednesday, March 29 at the latest on oswestrycommunitygames@gmail.com and we will get back in touch.

“The Community Games promises to be yet another successful day in the park, with sport, music and dance from diverse local organisations providing free and healthy activities on the day.

“The hope is that participants will try out a new activity, enjoy it, and take it up after the Community Games.

“With fair weather and surely we deserve it in mid-June, organisers anticipate another record turnout for all ages in the park.

“Many thanks go to Oswestry Town Council, Oswestry BID and Oswestry Sports Forum for already agreeing again to sponsor the Community Games while we have a number of other bids in progress to achieve our budget.”
