AN APPEAL for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision on the A5 in Nesscliffe on Monday has been made by West Mercia Police (WMP).

A man died at the scene on the A5 Holyhead Road between Oswestry and Shrewsbury after the incident in the early hours of January 23.

A WMP spokesman says an appeal for more information has been made, such as dashcam footage, and hopes the public can help them. 

They said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the A5 Holyhead Road near Nescliffe, in the early hours of January 23.

"At around 3.15am a Vauxhall Astra and a lorry collided, with the driver of the Astra, a 23-year-old man, pronounced dead at the scene.

"A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information or dashcam footage which may help with the investigation is asked to contact Sgt Alexander Saxton on 07970864475 or Alexander.saxton@westmercia.police.uk quoting incident 42i of 23 January."
