AN OSWESTRY woman died of natural causes, according to a Shropshire coroner – but an official cause of death could not be given.

Sarah Winifred Gittins, known as Winnie, was found unresponsive in her Maesbury Marsh home on August 28 this year by a neighbour who was completing a safe and well check as he had not seen the 92-year-old for a week.

The neighbour called the emergency services, with Shropshire firefighters arriving before police and ambulance staff to force open the property.

John Ellery, Shropshire coroner, told the court that Dr Julia S. Stafford, a pathologist, stated that due to the length of time before the former housekeeper was found it had not been possible to provide accurate results.

But Dr Stafford did find evidence in keeping with the chronic kidney disease Winnie suffered from, and added there were no signs of trauma or drugs or alcohol.

However, she could not ascertain a cause of death, leading to her inquest.

Mr Ellery told the court that he was satisfied it was from natural causes.

But he added the cause of death was from unknown reasons.
