A TOURIST attraction in Chirk will be closed today (Monday, December 19) due to forecasts of high winds.

The National Trust has taken the decision to close Chirk Castle and its estate because of the number of old and veteran trees in its grounds.

But it hopes to reopen as usual on Tuesday.

A message on the castle's Twitter page said: "Unfortunately Chirk Castle and the estate will be closed tomorrow (Monday, December 19) due to high winds.

"Because of the number of old and veteran trees along the footpaths and driveways there's a danger of falling trees and branches.

"We hope to welcome you as usual on Tuesday."

Although there is no weather warning in place, the Met Office has predicted high winds for the region today with gusts of 49mph expected this afternoon.
