TWO Powys border clubs will be battling for league points on Saturday as they aim for a festive bounce.

Llanrhaeadr make the trip to Ardal North East League side Llanuwchllyn with manager Michael Barton hopeful his side will be able to build on a 4-1 win over Corwen earlier in the month.

The result lifted the Tanat Valley side off the foot of the table and renewed hope the club could climb toward safety.

“It is a very tough away game against a decent side who impressed against us in the first game of the season,” said Barton. “However we have improved since then.”

Barton conceded the villagers would be restricted by player availability but insisted his side were competitive against anyone in the league with a full squad.

He said: “Hopefully we will have a full squad to pick from. Player availability is massive for us but when we have a full squad we are a very competitive side.”

Meanwhile a pre-Christmas derby will be staged at the Kings Head where Llanfyllin Town make the short trip to take on MMP Central Wales League North side Meifod.

Both sides go into the game having struggled in the league this season with just a point separating 13th placed Llanfyllin from 14th placed Meifod.

Magpies manager Sam Jones said his players were looking ahead to the clash having lost 4-1 to Kerry in Newtown last week in the only game to survive the weekend cold snap.

Jones said: “We look forward to a tough derby battle on Saturday and will looking to avenge our 2-1 defeat to Meifod earlier on in the season, which could have gone either way.”

“As always against Meifod we are expecting a hard physical game but our lads will be up for it and we are looking to finish the year on a high after a frustrating run of results.”
