A WELL-LOVED Oswestry building has been left vacant after a Toni & Guy hairdressing salon brought 18 years of trading to an end.

A notice has been placed in the windows of the Llwyd Mansion, the Grade-I listed building on the corner of Cross Street and Bailey Street, confirming the business has moved on after many years of styling Oswestrians' hair.

The notice left on the door has redirected their customers to the Shrewsbury branch while social media users have been frantically trying to find out where their preferred stylist will be going to next.

"We are very sorry to let you know that Toni & Guy Oswestry is officially closed," they said.

"For any future booking or queries please get in contact with your nearest Toni & Guy in Shrewsbury on 01743241325.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and hope to see you all soon."

Toni & Guy Oswestry opened in the heart of the town centre in 2004, but previously it was a card shop with a Thorntons chocolate shop within.

In the 19th century, the Llwyd Mansion used to be a shoe manufacturer named Taylor and Son, and was given a Grade I-listed building status, the highest category, in 1951.

The property has a Tudor style, and it was believed to have been built in the mid to late 15th century and was the family home of Edward Lhuyd, who reportedly coined the term 'dinosaur'.

It is also believed to be empty for the first time in its history.
