A COMPETITION to find the best pubs in Oswestry will launch in the coming weeks.

The Oswestry Pub Scene Awards 2022 will give bars and pubs the chance to be recognised for their greatness.

Oswestry Pub Scene was set up in 2019 by Kieran Sperring, to celebrate the current local pubs and to reminisce about the town’s lost ones.

The site's annual competition is a way to give locals the chance to show their appreciation and for the pubs to showcase their progress and improvements they have done throughout the year.

Kieran said: "Oswestry has always been known to have a huge selection of pubs to suit all types of adventures out.

"The competition will help to showcase the quality pubs we have in the centre of Oswestry, that are definitely worth a visit."

In 2021, a total of 500 people showed up and it is expected for the vote turnout to be even bigger this year.

"I feel most pubs would love to win an award, big or small, to show their success throughout the year and it will show by the pubs rallying their locals into voting for their establishments in the various categories."

All 24 bars and pubs from Oswestry will automatically be entered into the awards for categories such as: Best Pub, Best Food, Best Beer Garden, Friendliest Staff, Best Landlord/Landlady, Best Cocktail/Wine Bar, Best Pub to Watch Sport, Best Sunday roast and many more.

MORE NEWS:

"Long live the pub" is the motto of this competition, but Keiran said: "Over the years, as like many towns and cities across UK, more and more pubs are closing.

"The once-thriving local boozer has started to fade into shops, housing and empty buildings."
